Sunday Run

Not really sure what happened this week, but my pace is back down where it was earlier in the summer. Haven’t had a pace like this since July and still don’t feel 100%. Biomechanically, I guess the shorter strides to compensate for stiffness is allowing me better turnover. Kind of a choppy gait but it felt okay to me. A couple more easy, short runs this weekend before Providence on Sunday.

  • Date: 09/22/2013

Rock n Roll Philly

Came back to this race after a year absense. A great weekend all around.

Hit the expo with my sisters, one who ran and one who plans to run next year. Expo wasn’t all that great, but we did get some grub at the market adjacent to the convention center afterward. Had a gyro. Don’t get to eat stuff like that much at home.

Headed back to my older sister’s house for dinner and some carb loading (a la malted beverages). Dinner was awesome - pasta, kabobs and cupcakes. All of it yummy. Then we all just hung around the living room chatting and what not. Very relaxing.

Early wake-up at 4:30 but the trip up was good. Missed out on getting in the VIP parking, so we had about a mile walk to the start. None of us minded that too much. DID get the VIP area for bathrooms, bag check and food, though. That was awesome. Cut it close getting to my corral, but I wasn’t looking for a PR, merely to survive without injury.

Planned on 8:00 all the way and was able to bank about :30 in the first four miles. Stayed on pace but lost most of that bank by mile 9. Started to get tight in the back and got a little leg-weary. My prep for this race wasn’t all that great. Ran mile 11 in 7:40, so I had some time to play with to get me under a 1:45 finish.

Last couple of miles were tough. The sun came out, and temps jumped a little. Great finish in front of the art museum at 1:44:39, not a bad time, all things considered.

Relazed, stretched and fueled up in the VIP area (got some free passes for that, willing to pay extra to do it again) then headed home. Heat had me feeling a bit malaissed but very satisfied with my performance and what was a great weekend.
